Connecting the Dots
A patient of ours had a new skin lesion, and wait times at the local Dermatology office were starting to swell. Rather than resign to a referral that wouldn’t be seen for at least 3 months, we took pictures with our handheld microscope, and sent the images to one of the foremost tele-dermatology experts in the country. We had an answer back the next day.
Moving the Needle
When a local imaging company wouldn’t process a specialized order for a patient who has a strong family history of breast cancer because it wasn’t “in their protocols,” we called the Radiology suite and personally explained to them our reasoning. They called the patient that same day and got her scheduled.
